About
The Milwaukee Road Depot was purchased by the society in 1989, restored for use as a public library and research center in 1993, and donated to the village. It is the oldest remaining wood frame depot in Wisconsin. A coalition of the Mazomanie Library Board, the Friends of the Mazomanie Free Library, and the Mazomanie Historical Society raised nearly $450,000 to restore the building. The project was completed in 1993.
The research center is located in one of the former waiting rooms of the depot. It houses an extensive collection of area records including obituaries, photographs, local newspapers, cemetery records, family histories, and other papers and books of local importance. Genealogical research is one of the center’s primary functions.
