The Mazomanie Historical Society Annual Meeting will be Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 1:30 P.M at the Community Building, 9 Brodhead St., Mazomanie. This meeting will be followed at 2:00 P.M. with a program featuring Ann Waidelich who will discuss ice harvesting in the Madison area.
The meeting will begin with the annual report, followed by the 2014 annual meeting minutes,, the treasurer’s report, election of directors from the nominating committee’s list of candidates and nominations from the floor. The nominating committee is Judy Howard and Sarah Shackleton.
Dues and donations from the benefactor drive will be accepted at the meeting.
Following the business meeting the featured ice harvesting program will be presented by Ann Waidelich. She is a Madison historian and is curator at the Dean House in Madison/Monona. She has put together a program on ice harvesting emphasizing Madison companies and the nearby lakes. This program is especially relevant given the active ice harvesting activity in Mazomanie in the early 1900s. The harvesting business provided ice for nearby communities and rural customers who needed ice for their ice boxes. We have some of the local ice tools in the museum collection. We are pleased to have her with us to describe this harvesting activity. Following her presentation there will be an opportunity for discussion and questions and refreshments will be served concluding the afternoon program.
